Harrow and Wealdstone Station, a relatively unassuming stop on the London Underground, carries a significant historical legacy as one of the oldest stations in the network. Constructed in 1837, a full 26 years before the Metropolitan Railway's first trains ran between Farringdon and Paddington in 1863, the station originally served the mainline railway. Located in what was then rural Middlesex, the area around the station was more green and pastoral than the urban setting it is part of today. Initially named Harrow Station, it was renamed Harrow and Wealdstone in 1897, reflecting its service to both localities.
As urbanization transformed the area, Harrow and Wealdstone expanded and adapted, eventually integrating into the Underground network in 1917 as part of the Bakerloo line.
