Police Prepared for Champions League Final and Protests
The Metropolitan Police will deploy over 2,000 officers across London for the upcoming weekend's events, including the Champions League Final and several protests. Officers from outside London will assist. Significant police presence will be around Wembley, fan zones, and protest areas. Specific conditions have been imposed on protests to prevent disruption. The police aim to ensure public safety and minimize disorder.
London Paramedic Honoured for Bravery at Sudbury Hill Station
Paramedic Dean Hawkins from the London Ambulance Service received a police commendation for his bravery. He jumped onto Tube tracks at Sudbury Hill to help restrain a violent passenger armed with a weapon. His quick action, alongside an off-duty officer and a Tube worker, helped ensure safety until more officers arrived. Dean was honoured with a Chief Constableβs Commendation by the British Transport Police.
Simon Girma Wins National Biscuit Dunking Championship
Simon Girma, a 35-year-old creative designer from North London, was crowned Britain's best biscuit dunker at the National Dunking Championship. Hosted by McVitie's, the competition tested contestants' skills with various biscuits, including Digestive, Rich Tea, Chocolate Hobnob, and Gingernut. Simon won after a sudden death tie-breaker with a Chocolate Hobnob, praised for his steady hand and extensive dunking practice.
Dance the Night Away at the Apollo Revisited Event
Apollo Revisited: May I Have This Dance Again will take place on June 1, 2024, at The Lounge in Wembley. Enjoy a night of music with DJs JB Crew, Charlie B & Mr Boogie, Daddy Super Jam Ernie, and Cabbage Man. Doors open at 9:00 pm, with no admission after 1:00 am. Entry is Β£10.
