Hatch End High School Lauded for Behaviour and Teaching Quality
Hatch End High School in Harrow was praised in its latest Ofsted report, receiving a 'Good' rating. The inspection highlighted the school's calm and orderly environment, strong behaviour management, and inclusive approach, especially for students with special educational needs.
The school's curriculum, particularly in the sixth form, and the high-quality teaching were also commended. The report noted significant improvements in student behaviour and the effective support provided to those learning English or struggling with reading.
Road Closures Expected for 42 Weeks During Harrow Gas Works
Major gas works on Harrow View will start on June 17, 2024, lasting 42 weeks. Cadent will replace old metal gas pipes with durable plastic ones along a 1km stretch from Headstone Gardens to Hindes Road. The project will involve rolling road closures and diversions to minimize disruption. Buses and large vehicles will be redirected, and smaller vehicles will have limited access. Cadent will also upgrade smaller service pipes to properties.
Drivers Advised to Delay Fuel Purchases for Potential Savings
Drivers are advised not to fill up their cars this week due to potential savings from a recent law change. The Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Act aims to reduce fuel costs by targeting price exploitation at petrol and diesel stations. The RAC highlights that UK fuel prices are among the highest in Europe, but new powers granted to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) could help monitor and lower these costs.
Legal Action Planned to Halt Pinner Road Development Threatening Wildlife
Residents of Pinner Road and the Gardens are campaigning against a proposed development threatening a local badger sett and other wildlife. Despite 31,000 signatures opposing the project, the council approved it, prompting residents to seek a judicial review. The proposed development includes building three blocks of apartments on a woodland area, disrupting a vital green corridor and home to diverse flora and fauna. The campaign seeks to raise Β£10,000 for legal action to protect this natural habitat.
Three Charged After Pitch Invasion at Champions League Final
Three individuals were charged following a pitch invasion during the Champions League Final at Wembley. Yevhenii Lubnenko, David Carneckij, and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named, were charged with going onto the playing area, violating the Football (Offences) Act 1991. They will appear in court on different dates in June and July.
Online Safety Act Needs Continuous Updates, Says Bereaved Father
Ian Russell, father of Molly Russell, warns that the Online Safety Act is not "job done" and calls on the next government to continue updating legislation to protect children. The act requires social media companies to curb illegal content and protect children, but Russell emphasizes the need for ongoing adaptation due to rapidly evolving tech. The Molly Rose Foundation has proposed a five-point plan for further regulation and harm reduction measures.
