Northwood Girls Triumph in NFL Flag Football Championship

The Northwood girls' American football team won the second edition of the Jets and Bears NFL Girls Flag League championship, defeating Beaconsfield 22-8. The event took place at AFC Wimbledonโ€™s Plough Lane on May 20. The Northwood players were awarded their trophy by Chicago Bears icon Jerry Azumah. The girls also enjoyed a barbecue, DJs, and games during the event. They have been invited to attend the 2024 NFL London Games in the autumn.

Harrowโ€™s Traffic Management Improved with High-Tech Signals

Harrow's traffic signals have been upgraded to a high-tech, cloud-based Real Time Optimiser (RTO) system, replacing the decades-old management system. This upgrade by TfL and Yunex Traffic Limited enhances journey times, traffic flow, and incident response, benefiting 6,400 automated traffic signal junctions and pedestrian crossings across London. The RTO system supports TfLโ€™s Vision Zero goal to eliminate road deaths and injuries and sets the stage for the future introduction of the FUSION adaptive control system.

Roadworks on Brookshill in Harrow Weald are scheduled from June 17 to June 28, causing significant traffic delays. The road will be closed to manage the traffic, impacting travel towards the M1 and Harrow Weald to Stanmore routes. Commuters are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid delays.

Record Low Gun Crimes as Met Police Intensify Operations

The Metropolitan Police are intensifying efforts to combat firearm offenses, achieving record lows in gun-related crimes over the past 15 years. In the last year, 386 illegal firearms were seized, and firearm-related murders have decreased. Operations in Harrow, Brent, and Barnet have been notably successful, with no firearms-related murders since 2020. Targeted actions in South East London and Westminster have also resulted in significant arrests and seizures, reflecting the Met's commitment to reducing gun crime and enhancing community safety.

New Legal Support Service Launched by Sadiq Khan After Previous Setbacks

Sadiq Khan has launched a new legal advice service for victims of rape and serious sexual offenses, following setbacks in a previous scheme. The pilot will run for a year and provide support for victims aged 16 and over. Referrals will come from independent sexual violence advisors and the Metropolitan Police in select boroughs. The scheme is funded with an additional ยฃ148,500 and includes two full-time lawyers and necessary administrative support.
